Becket Fund participates in religious freedom discussion at U.S. State DepartmentJul 29, 2009 Angela Wu, International Law Director at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty spoke at the U.S. Department of State at a briefing on security, religious freedom, and Muslim integration in Europe.
The event was hosted by the Religion & Global Affairs Working Group, a new State Department forum connecting officers interested in discussion and collaboration on engaging religious ideas and actors in the pursuit of U.S. foreign policy objectives.
The two speakers at this event were Angela C. Wu and Justin Vaisse. Angela, the Becket Fund’s International Law Director, has researched hybrid legal systems and how regulation of religion externalizes the conscience. She has also developed a modular curriculum in rule of law and religious freedom adaptable for jurists, laypersons, and clerics with varying levels of education. Justin Vaisse is a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and is a former advisor to the Policy Planning Staff of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs who focuses on American foreign policy and transatlantic relations. He is also an expert on Islam in France and teaches at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
