Newdow v. Carey

Location:  Rio Linda Union School District (Rio Linda, CA)
Issue:  Schools
Status:  Open

Overview:  Round 2 in the battle to keep the Pledge of Allegiance and "under God" in the culture and schools of the United States.  After a September, 2005 trial court ruling striking down the Pledge in the Rio Linda Union School District, the Becket Fund stepped in on behalf of the children who attend the targetted public schools, their parents, and the Knights of Columbus.  An appeal was filed before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on June 1, 2006.  After Michael Newdown filed his Opposition brief, the Becket Fund filed a reply brief on September 5, 2006.
