Hannah C. Smith received her A.B. from Princeton University, concentrating in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. She received her J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and is a member of the Order of the Coif. During law school, she served as Executive Editor of the BYU Law Review and as a research assistant for the BYU International Center for Law and Religion Studies.

Following law school, she and her husband clerked together for Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Following private practice in litigation in Washington D.C., she clerked at the United States Supreme Court for Justice Clarence Thomas. After another stint in private practice, Hannah returned to the Supreme Court to clerk for Justice Alito during his first term. Hannah joined the Becket Fund in 2007.

Hannah has previously served as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France and Switzerland. She currently serves as a member of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society International Board and as Reunions Chair for her Princeton alumni class.
