Wolfhart Pannenberg is
emeritus professor of theology at the University of Munich, and
was director of its Ecumenical Institute. He is among the most well-known
contemporary Protestant theologians, and his three volume Systematic
Theology is considered a landmark work.
Born in 1928 in Stettin,
Germany (modern Poland), he began his theological studies after
World War II at the University of Berlin. He received his PhD from
the University of Heidelberg and taught at the Kirchliche Hochschule
and at the University of Mainz before moving to the University of
Munich in 1968.
In addition to his Systematic
Theology series, his other books include Theology and the
Philosophy of Science, Anthropology in Theological Perspective,
Metaphysics and the Idea of God, and Revelation as History.
