Protestants and Jews declare to White House: We stand with Catholics

Protestant and orthodox Jewish leaders join in opposition to HHS contraceptive mandate.

Today, more than 40 non-Catholic religious organizations including Protestant-affiliated colleges, National Association of Evangelicals, Focus on the Family, Assemblies of God, Northwest Nazarene University, and Eastern Mennonite University, sent a letter to the White House demanding religious protection against the newly issued HHS contraceptive mandate.

“We write not in opposition to Catholic leaders and organizations. We write in solidarity.” Says the coalition letter. “Leaders of other faiths are also deeply troubled by and opposed to the mandate and the narrow exemption.”

In a letter sent December 21, 2011, the group expressed deep concern about the contraceptive  provision in the Health and Human Services mandates, which includes the most narrow “religious employer” qualifications excluding protection of most-faith based organizations.

“We are all deeply concerned about the narrow exemption, including proposals made to expand it while still leaving unprotected many faith-based organizations.” The letter continues, “We believe that the Federal government is obligated by the First Amendment to accommodate the religious convictions of faith-based organizations of all kinds, Catholic and non-Catholic.”

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty currently represents Belmont Abbey College, a private Catholic College, and Colorado Christian University, a non-denominational Christian University, in the first lawsuits against this unprecedented mandate.

I do hope the moderators publish the following. If not, do not publish my first comment.

    Further…

I do object however to “Who We Defend” of the Becket Fund’s statement below:

We believe that religious liberty is a fundamental human right because the religious impulse is natural to human beings. For this reason, we defend people of all faiths. We like to say we have defended religions from A-Z, Anglicans to Zoroastrians. The Becket Fund has defended dozens of faiths including: Amish, Buddhists, Evangelical Christians, Hindus, Jews, Lutherans, Mormons, Muslims, Native Americans, Non-Denominational Christians, Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Santeros, Sikhs, Unitarian Universalists, and Zoroastrians.

The Alpha and Omega (A to Z) is YHVH: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is the only true faith. Christ is the only true path to life eternal. I therefore cannot support non-Biblical organizations or individuals stances against Biblical truth.

Christ died for our sins. All of our sins and rose again. He is seated on the throne and will come again to earth. The Kingdom of God is at hand.

Praise be to the true one. Y’shua, our Holy Redeemer Savior Jesus the Christ!

  • Pat

Thank you for standing for Christ!

I have had discussions with my Catholic friends prior to this latest abomination of the Obamanation.

I was disappointed with these individuals (not representative of the Catholic Church) that we as believers should not care whether a candidate is a true Bible believing child of YHVH.

I will be sure to point these individuals to your petition.

The stance of the current and future Presidents on freedom of faith unfettered by the secular government DOES MATTER.

This stance for our freedom to worship God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit with integrity is essential to a nation to once again live and fully embrace “in God we trust.”

Be not ashamed of Christ lest he be ashamed of us before God the Father.
    Praise His Holy Name, Y’shua!
    Stand!
Put on the full armor of God!

If an employer doesn’t provide the options you want in health care, i.e. abortions and/or contraceptives in their healthcare package…work for someone else. Don’t force those who don’t believe in those options to provide them!

Wonderful to find you doing such wondefful work.God bless you all.

I have commented previously about Obama’s administration and it’s blatant attacks on Christianity. This isn’t the first, by far and won’t be the last. Remember the VA saying that no one could bring in Bibles to read to their family members and friends at the Army’s Walter Reed Hospital? Remember the cemetery administrator attempting to deny family and friends from saying prayer at the grave sites of our American Solders? I certainly hope that you all realize that this is a deliberate, gradual eradication of your Constitutional Rights. I speak this as a private citizen and I scream these warnings from the pulpit. And I pray to GOD that you are paying attention.

  • Katie

    Wooow…!

  • Anna

    Thank you!

  • Theresa

Thank you for our Protestant and Jewish brothers and sisters for standing with us against those who would deny American citizens their right to freedom of religion! You are an answer to prayer. And with prayer and sacrifice, God will help us to turn our nation around again!

  • Michelle

For the life of me and all I don’t understand that you can use religion to exempt yourself from taking shots all students have to take (for Polio) and you can use religion as a reason not to have to fight for our country and kill (Quakers), but you can’t use religion to take a life for an abortion (to kill).
If we are not allowed to stand by our fundemental beliefs…what is left….
I am going to look and see who voted and make sure i don’t vote for anyone who supports abortion in anyway…..

  • Laura

We need to stand united again Obama’s anti-religious actions, so thank you!

  • http://selahselah.com nick

God bless you and thank you so much our brother and sisters in faith! God Bless You!

  • Nick Gibboni

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • John Felton

A church is a religious organization, a hospital or a university is not. In general, the HHS rules apply to employers who are not religious organizations.

  • Judi

Thanks you!!! Please do not stop fighting for religious freedom!!!!

  • Walter Corrigan

Thank you for your support. We must stand together on these issues. The first shot was fired at the Lutherans under the guise of “employment rights.” Hopefully the Supreme Court will give another 9-0 victory to freedom over this Administration. We must stand together against Obama and his minions.

  • Terry Southard

    Thank you. Just thank you.

  • Charlotte Baker

Being a Bible believing Christian,I personally Thank all My Protestant Catholic, and Jewish Brothers and Sisters, For taking a stand for the Word Of God.Keep Praying, Keep Believing, Stand With Our God. He will Win the Fight.

  • Chrystal

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for your support on this issue! We must stand up for our rights under the first ammendment!

  • Isa Kocher

i am a 100% disabled USA veteran. Not a Swiss Guard. i fought for human rights and not papal ownership of the USA and not for anti-science misogyny made USA law. your employees have the same rights everyone has. that is what makes the USA great. please keep your god out of my face and off my family. i did not fight and give my life to see religion made law. and making your employees second class inferior citizens does not further our greatness as a country. enough is enough. women are people. every bit as much as your pope your rabbi as human as every baby born. god runs the universe and did not and does not and will not ask for your permission. enough misogyny already. be religious: give forgive take care of the sick and the poor. there is no dictatorship in the sermon on the mount. caesar has his job. jesus says. that job includes the rights of everyon and not just those with their collars on backwards dressed in silks satins and fur hats and claiming ownership of truth.

  • Isa Kocher

every woman’s rights trump the catholic church’s need to dictate their god on me. keep your religion out of my family. what makes you think you own god and i must kiss your fingers. shame. this isn’t morality. it is medieval inquisition. thank god our government puts human rights over the catholic church’s mythological unscientific anti-woman dogmatics. no. it’s simony what the church wants. it’s a misuse and abuse of god. keep your hands off my family.

  • Isa Kocher

why must i obey the pope. i am not a catholic. if you employ people, they have the same rights anybody el;se has and you don’t own god. don’t speak for god and have no right to force people to obey you because your pope wants it. the vatican does not own god and certainly doesn’t own employees in the usa. shame on you all. this is not franco spain or salazar portugal or mussolini italy or junta greece or ratko mmlavic serpcha. women have rights in the usa. thank god.

  • Chriistopher Braun

Hallelujah! We have learned the lessons of Nazi Germany! We are not waiting for the policies to affect us directly before acting. If we stand fast, this evil will fall.

  • Giancarlo

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all my Jewish and Protestant friends who are standing in solidarity with us in this hour of persecution. Let’s pray and fast together.

    Your Catholic brother,

    Giancarlo

  • James Louis

Its beautiful that Christians are showing signs of Unity, there are many more persecution to come ahead in future within no time, Its wise for us to keep aside our doctrinal differences and understand how wonderfully we are made in Union with God! Lets send a message across that we believe in the Living God. How pleased God will be to see us embracing each other in the biggest Faith of all – LOVE! for nothing surpasses Love, its God wer the Origin is from. Praise the Lord Almighty. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. :)
    God Bless us all!

  • divina canares

it’s not about religion it’s about humanity. thanks God that many speak out. let’s pray for the Holy Spirit to light up their minds.

  • http://mliccione.blogspot.com Michael Liccione

I’ve shared this on Facebook. I’m also quite familiar with what Belmont Abbey College has been doing on this front for several years. I intend to blog about that shortly.

  • Misio Wynar

Its amazing to see how ignorant most people are of the amazing implications the government is using to try and take away religious freedom! Thank you our brothers and sisters who worship our one God! Hallelujah!

  • Anne Orban

I think i see a light at the end of the tunnel. I pray for conntinued unity of Faiths…we are truly Blessed by our protestant and Jewish brothers and sisters!

  • Ron

Perhaps we shouldn’t have our health insurance tied to our employers, and then this entire issue goes away.

    • MaryB

Not necessarily. If the federal government mandates that all insurance plans must cover abortion, sterilization and contraception, you won’t be able to go out and buy your own health insurance plan without these things. We own a small business and the only plans available for purchase provide full coverage for things we find immoral.

    • Billy

Ron, Mary completely correct. We found out yesterday that without notice our businesses carrier added these services to our plan even though we specifically excluded them in negotiations. Now we are left with either dropping insurance for our employees or trying to find a plan that doesn’t cover these services and to date we haven’t been able to find any. This denial of our religious convictions as business owners is truly a denial of our liberties.

  • Sister Veronica

Praise the Lord! It would take such an issue to bring unity. What hope to know that we stand for life and for our first amendment rights – That’s why our country was begun – to force people who don’t believe killing is what we are supposed to do – and threaten to shut them down is just plain wrong.

  • Amy Nicanor

God bless each and everyone of you! This issue is purely a freedom of religion issue and it knows no bounds. We must stand united and pray, act, and vote our way to victory. We must continue to speak in one voice against this and all legislation that threatens our right to religious freedom.

  • Urszula

Amen!! United we stand, divided we fall!! God bless them!

  • Maria

Thank you for your support. God bless.

  • Paul

Thank you for your support and Steve this is not just a Catholic issue. if we do nothing here where will they stop in taking our liberties away.

  • Caz

Thank you for your support! May we continue to speak with a united voice and bring this unconstitutional decision to and end! We are blessed by our Protestant and Jewish brothers and sisters! God bless you!

  • Matt

What about the rights of the individuals? They seem to be forgotten… as usual….

  • Greg

Oba-modis operundi – ignore it…till it goes away. “Supreme Court, who are they? The “Honorable” Obama.

  • Steve P in Detroit, Mich.

Good for them, having the insight that this isn’t a Catholic issue, but a Constitutional issue.

  • Jennifer Wampler

Thank you, thank you for supporting our Religious Freedom!
